Love Does Not Win

Rob Bell has risen to fame in the past decade with many books he has written.  From Velvet Elvis to Sex God, he sure has drawn in a large crowd of evangelicals.  Bell released a book a few years ago entitled Love Wins.  This book has sparked so much controversy among contemporary Christians that Bell is now regarded as a heretic among many.  I am here to tell you that Rob Bell is an absolute disgrace to the Christian religion who has twisted the word of God so badly that he has ultimately destroyed the fundamental ideas of Christianity as a whole.

Bell released a video alongside his book to show the point of what he was writing.  The point at the beginning of the video is to show that God wouldn’t send a guy like Ghandi to hell because of all the good things that he has done.  Bell embraces a view called universalism, which states that every path someone can take can lead someone to heaven.  Anyone who holds this view and also claims to be a Christian is absolutely ignorant of what the Bible says.  Bell obviously has no concept of this, because he is unsettled with the fact that someone can go to a place like hell.

So,  I think it is important to address why a loving God would send somebody to hell.  We are sinful beings and when we sin, we might as well be spitting in the face of God.  When talking about an issue like heaven and hell, we have to ask ourselves what a God of justice would do.  If God really cared about keeping a thing like sin out of heaven, which He should, then He would create a terrible, tragic place for that sin to go.  A similar analogy would be when we send criminals to prison.  There would be no justice if we just let them roam free and did not lock them up.  Many people, like Bell, cannot see this kind of justification so they make up lousy forms of theology to make it look like there is a good God.  In reality, the god that Bell worships is not a good, biblical God, but an unholy, unjust god who does not match up with what is talked about in the Bible.

So, does love win?  Not in the sense that Bell thinks it does.  Bell has a messed up definition of the word “love.”  A real loving God would not allow sin, death, and suffering to enter His kingdom.

Something we have to realize is that God gave us two commandments to follow.  Love God and love people.  Ghandi got the love people part down, but he completely missed God.  So, as far as I can know from his records, he did not accept Christ.  The only way someone can be saved from an eternity in hell is to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6
